Spent the weekend attending the Scottish Bakers Confernce in Peebles. We have been members of the SAMB for a few year but this was the first time we had attended the anual conference. We decided to go for two reasons. 1. We were invited to be guests of BAKO Northernwho are a supplier of ours. 2. As SAMB have relaunched themselves as Scottish Bakers and we had attended one of their roadshows which was intended to inform us of all the changes taking place we were keen to find out just how the conference would be conducted.
We arrived on Friday afternoon and attended the informal dinner and quiz night. The venue was the McDonald Cardona Hotel which has great views over the surrounding countryside. We had great company at the dinner table both nights and the quiz on the first night was a complete hoot! We did not win but we had a good time scratching our heads for the answers and the banter round the table was priceless. On Sautrday 14th we attended the conference which was very interesting and informative. The speakers were good and the format worked well. Very professionally run event all round.
Nick Nairn was the key speaker and he was very informal and also very funny - he admitted that this was his first powerpoint presentation, he handled it well but did say he was apt to jump around a bit and indeed he did but a good presentaion none the less - well done Nick!
On Saturday night we attended the very formal Presidential Banquet, which was attended by twice the amount of people compared to Friday night. Dinner was tasty but the dessert missed the mark. It was a baked cheesecake but it was very very dry. Note to hotel : if by chance you read this then please get in touch for some tips in making delicious mouthwatering cheesecakes...ha ha. I did see lots and lots of dessert plates going back to the kitchen with the cheesecake still on them....so it was not just me!
All in all it was a good weekend. Well done Scottish Bakers and the team behind the event!
Well its Monday 16th May and its cold and wet outside. What happend to the weather???? Hope the good weather returns soon, gets folks out and about.
Inside the Dessert Depot we are busy, busy, busy, yet more new inquirys and referrals to follow up. We have booked the photoshoot for the new cheescakes and cakes for next week and this week we will carry out futher testing. The newsletter announcing the new products will be sent out WK1 June.
